Trépanier
Liza Trépanier works across the disciplines of oil painting, neon, photography, and spray paint to connect spirituality and devotion with impurity, cheapness, and otherness. Her most recent work explores the mechanics of prayer in mankind’s relationship with God. People have a tendency to create hierarchies within religion of who is worthy to approach God, despite what they believe about the nature of God. These hierarchies transform people’s beliefs of self-worth and have the potential to shift their spirituality to a social performance instead of a private relationship. By doing so, Trépanier hopes to question spiritual stereotypes and legitimize nontraditional forms of spirituality.
Liza Trépanier was born in Los Angeles and raised in San Diego, California. She is currently pursuing a bachelor of fine arts degree at Brigham Young University. Trépanier lives and works in Provo, Utah.
